I have been involved in the flat roofing industry for over 30 years. I started working as a trainee felt fixer and progressed to a self-employed felter subcontracting to RCC, before later joining RCC as an employee. This is where I also became a qualified single ply installer.

Later came the opportunity to work in the office and progress further to the position I hold now. During the 30 years I have witnessed many changes in the industry.

I first joined RCC in 2003 as a labourer. Like a lot of people in the industry it was only supposed to be for a couple of months, but it worked out to be what I really wanted to do!

I worked up to being a single ply fixer and worked on the tools until 2014 until I became the Contracts Manager here at RCC. After a year in this position I switched again to concentrate on Estimating which is where I find myself today.

I have been roofing for around 25 years, starting off as a felt roofing labourer. I gradually worked my way up to being a Supervisor/Forman running jobs from shed roof size to many thousands of metres on schools and shopping centres (mainly in single ply membranes).  I have also been involved in many other types of roofing including slating & tiling, cladding and liquids. Over the last few years I have moved off the tools into an office based job as the Contracts Manager here at RCC running our labour and jobs on a day to day basis.

I joined RCC in 2015, my role initially including a range of Administrative tasks such as dealing with customer queries.  I then completed an AAT Level 2 and 3 qualification which enabled me to have an understanding of the Accounts here too.

RCC has been a large part of my life growing up. My grandad was the first family member to work here, and then my dad was soon to join him – working his way up into a Managerial role. My mum works in the office too, and my brother is also a skilled single ply fitter on the tools.

I started roofing in 1982 as a slater/tiler labourer, working for numerous roofing companies around the Cambridge area. In 1988 I joined RCC as a slater/tiler, I then learn about single ply roofing over the next few years until I left RCC. In 2017 I came back ‘home’ to RCC, where I spent a further year on the tools until 2018 when I joined the office side of life as a Contract Supervisor.
